Can you run KRunner by pressing alt + F2, or is the desktop totally gone?

Ok, so it looks like plasma-desktop is crashing. Could you please install kdebase-workspace-dbg and try to get a backtrace of the crash using the instructions at https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Backtrace please? Thanks in advance.

affects: kdesdk (Ubuntu) → kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu)

Kate is not what is crashing. You need to install kdebase-workspace-dbg for plasma-desktop's debugging symbols, then run plasma-desktop through gdb. (After quitting the existing plasma-desktop session by kquitapp plasma-desktop)

i have installed kdebase-workspace-dbg and only the .txt are named kate, i have run plasma-desktop through gdb ..

If you open the file, you wil see and the error too.

Oh, ok. The file title was a bit confusing. The log doesn't actually contain a backtrace though, so it is a bit useless.
Does any NFO do this? I could try to reproduce it with a few of mine.

sorry, I poorly explained to me:)

I do not know why it gives me no "backtrace" as you say, but i have do all you say and in wiki.

I tested 8 NFO and they all did the same mistake. Sometimes there was no crash, but if you open them a few times, I'm sure you could reproduce it.

Best regards

Hi, I have a similar problem. After playing around for a while, I found out that if there is a certain pattern in the file path that kate accesses, plasma-desktop will crash for sure. The pattern I found is "more than three Chinese characters within a pair of square brackets", for example, "/home/zanetu/[一二三四].txt", "/home/zanetu/[一二三四五]/a.txt", etc.
I followed the instructions in https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Backtrace and got the txt file in the attachment. Hope it will help.

You need to run gdb with
gdb --args plasma-desktop --nofork --nocrashhandler
to produce sane results.

Hi Harald,

At present I'm using Kubuntu 10.10 with the version of Kate being v3.5.5. The bug is no longer reproducible with Kate v3.5.5.

Thanks,
Zane
