Bug Description

I have been having problems updating and several other simple tasks... I have another computer I just got... I used the same cd for install no problems. I put this cd in this computer, shut the computer of for 30 sec. held down the "bios-reset" for another 30 sec then turned the computer on. On the boot screen I used the usual stock options except I removed "splash" and the word before it can't recall (but it is to do with the display as you boot I know that much) I added " expert silent noload=md0.uzip;libelf.so.* " then I booted... I have been comparing the Filesystems of my two machines including the files, by size, readable contents and hexadecimal data, however one the secondary (this) machine I couldn't view most of the OS files so I did mount -l and the list is also very different between the 2 machines these are a few of the different lines...

/lib/modules/2.6.27-7-generic/volatile/ (this was listed twice)
/sys/fs/fuse/connections
/home/ubuntu/.gvfs
/lib/init/rw
/proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc
/dev/shm
In the user folders I also noticed a pretty big difference between the 2 machines the amount of files in this machine is also significantly larger... I wanted to install some dbg packages so I could get an effective backtrace to you guys but they aren't listed in the repositories I had, (including the ones on the ubuntu wiki page about adding dbg symbols) When I tried to add manually apt-get errored without signaling a crash, just errored out. I have a little experience with linux not a whole lot, however I am pretty sure this isn't an ID.10T error...I am using 8.04 Intrepid btw....

Looking at the attached dpkg-log, the following line shows the following reason for this problem:

dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/openoffice.org-core_1%3a2.4.1-11ubuntu2.1_i386.deb (--unpack):
failed in buffer_write(fd) (11, ret=-1): backend dpkg-deb during `./usr/lib/openoffice/program/libxof680li.so': No space left on device

"no space left on device" means that simply the disk ran out of space here, I don't think this is a problem of the package itself.

Therefore I am closing this as duplicate of a bug where the error message is discussed, please try to make more space available on your harddrive and then try again.

If you think there is a problem with too much space usage somewhere, please create a separate bug report that provides the relevant information.

See also Bug #312491 which discusses improving the error message in this case.
