Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-generic

~/ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.10
Release: 9.10

linux-image-generic: 2.6.31-14.48

After attempting to resume from either suspend or hibernate everything starts fine except for the network driver crashing in the kernel. I will attach the dmesg from when this happened. This is a crash, but I'm not sure if this is a security problem (security is a very broad word, if it is, please CC them as necessary). My computer is fairly useless afterwards, especially if I had NFS up.

I should have mentioned I'm actually using Xubuntu, I guess lsb_release doesn't differentiate.

As a bit of a sidenote; I don't need the complex features of NetworkManager so I tried running plain dhcpcd and the kernel does not crash with it; so it's a good workaround until this bug is fixed.

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue.

If this bug really is a bug in the linux-meta package you can move it back to linux-meta and set the Status to Confirmed, or contact us on the #ubuntu-kernel channel on the FreeNode IRC server. Thanks.

affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)

Hi all,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Please, can you tell us whether this is still an issue for you? If not, please, consider update this bug as 'Fix Released', else, can you please, fill a little form, with questions contained in this wiki? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume

It will definitely help developers to find the fix or help you to detect that you don't really have real bug. Please, pay special attention to the "Encrypted Home-Swap" issue and the flashing caps-lock.

Information below, will also help you

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UnderstandingSuspend

I'd also encourage you to try this tests https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/SuspendResumeTesting to gather more information to developers.

We also remember you that every bug needs to be tested with latest stable kernel version before being triaged. So, please, can you include some test with latest Lucid version?

Please, don't forget to attach your /var/log/pm-suspend.log

Thank you in advance.
