I know that this is no forum but may I ask if compiz works for you (at all)?

If I look at your screenshot it looks pretty much like my Desktop after I tried the 9.10 RC live-CD with disabled compiz.
Even worse: when enabling compiz I get artifacts all over my Desktop.

As I have an IBM X31 too so this might be related.

I will attach my screenshots.

BTW: i made no changes in the live-CD session at all... only tried it with and without enabled compiz.

No compiz available for X31, but notifyOSD should be there!

Fabio, you're supplied screenshot with the messed up notification-bubble looks like a known bug in xorg-xserver-video-ati. Do you have an ATI-based GPU in your laptop? Since I don't know yet what GPU is installed on your system, I'll provide the info I know regarding the ATI-driver related bug.

It occurs if XAA (instead of EXA) is used in combination with XRender-acceleration. The XAA-codepath in Xorg video-drivers is unmaintained by now and will not likely to see any further work. On such systems EXA should be enabled.

Changed in notify-osd (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete
importance: Undecided → Medium
milestone: none → karmic-updates

Mirco,

you are right!
I have changed XAA to EXA and now I have back my OSD.

Thanks a lot. I will mark this as a duplicato of #429295

As I have the same problem I will answer:
the IBM X31 comes with a radeon 7000 (r100 m6ly).

"The XAA-codepath in Xorg video-drivers is unmaintained by now and will not likely to see any further work. On such systems EXA should be enabled."
Without making changes to xorg.conf 9.10 RC starts per default with "XAA" enabled. If XAA is not maintained anymore this should be changed soewhere?
