Bug Description

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Audio lags behind graphics in flash games (e.g., http://jamlegend.com/), but not in flash video players (e.g., YouTube). I first noticed this in Intrepid, but I took a long time to think of PulseAudio as the culprit.

Seems that the lag is a bit more than half second. I'm not sure how widespread it is, but although I mainly tested with JamLegend, a few other flashgames were out of sync too. The problem went away after removing PulseAudio and installing OSSv4 instead (tried this on Ubuntu 8.10).

Possibly, it is just a matter of tweaking PulseAudio configuration, but I did not manage work it out.

Is this symptom reproducible using the most current daily-live desktop Lucid image?

I'm using the very recent version of Ubuntu Lucid and that bug also occurred on my system when I tried to play JamLegend. The only possible solution was to install OSS4. However, this is just a simple workaround and I want my PulseAudio back as soon as possible. (:

It is shm-related.

When lag appears, pause the game and type this in terminal:

/usr/bin/pulseaudio --cleanup-shm

And there is no lag again :)

Hmm it's look like I had luck two times. It's not shm.

Well, just for the record I tried in Lucid and the problem persists. shm did not work, indeed.

Bug does still occur in the very recent Ubuntu 10.10 beta, so I guess there have been no changes on PulseAudio.

This pulseaudio bug was confirmed only with very old Ubuntu releases, could you test if audio still lags behind graphics in flash games (e.g., http://jamlegend.com/) with latest stable Ubuntu version - 12.04 ?
