Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-server

Since kernel upgrade 2.6.28-15 came out for Ubuntu, I have not been able to upgrade to a newer kernel. If I run #sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, or #sudo apt-get upgrade, The machine tries to process the upgrade and returns with "errors were encountered with processing" and then lists the offending packages. Individual package updates return errors about "failed to process /etc/kernel/postinst.d at /var/lib/dpkg/info/[package name].postinst" whenever I run dpkg --configure -a.

After working on this bug further, I found that there was an error tied to /etc/kernel/postins.d/dkms This dkms file was empty and would hang installation at every turn. I renamed the file to dkms.bak, re-ran the installation and everything worked flawlessly.

This bug was reported against the linux-meta package when it likely should have been reported against the linux package instead. We are automatically transitioning this to the linux kernel package so that the appropriate teams are notified and made aware of this issue.

If this bug really is a bug in the linux-meta package you can move it back to linux-meta and set the Status to Confirmed, or contact us on the #ubuntu-kernel channel on the FreeNode IRC server. Thanks.

affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)
