Bug Description

My notebook wakes up during an attempt to hibernate. In other words, it never makes it to switching itself off. Other functions (sleep, restart, shutdown) work.

From kern.log (see below) I can see the hibernate action stopped during "shrinking memory" phase.

It does not work on my Dell Latitude D600 either. I'm using Dapper Flight 7.

Sometimes it appears to go into hibernation just fine, but then when the power button is pushed, it boots as normal instead of recovering the session. Sometimes it fails to hibernate completely, saying that my swap device is not valid. I have not yet untangled what conditions trigger each of these.

I can't hibernate at all, so that I'm not able to say anything about recovering from hibernation ;-)

I too have a Dell Latitude D610, using Gutsy 7.10. When I close the lid to hibernate it gets stuck, my only way out is to turn the machine off completely then back on.

I'm also using a Dell Latitude D610. Neither standby nor hibernate work at all. The screen goes black with both, but the computer doesn't shut down. I can't wake the computer up from whatever state it is in either, and I have to hold the power button down for a few seconds to shut the computer off and just reboot.

Dell Latitude D610 has contained a range of hardware components over the life of the product. Graphics: ATI M300 & Intel i915GM. Wireless: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG & Broadcom Corporation BCM4318. More substantial technical information is required. Some people report this laptop with Suspend working on AC but not on battery.

This bug seems to have regressed into Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on 2.6.32-22-generic.

Suspend is not working from the gnome Suspend menu option. I also tried the /etc/acpi/sleep.sh script from the command line. In either case, the screen fades to black, but the LCD backlight continues to stay on, the WiFi light stays on, and the disk light turns on occasionally. I can use Ctrl-Alt-F1 thru F6 to get to the console login prompt. I can also use Ctrl-Alt-F7 to return to gnome, although it sometimes will ask for my password.

On 9.10, the Suspend function worked correctly.

My laptop is a Dell Latitude D610 with Intel 915GM/PM/GMS/910GML graphics.

I rebooted the same laptop on 2.6.31-20-generic, and Suspend seems to be working correctly on that kernel. However, on that kernel I'm getting an error message about the RAM drive, which I haven't observed on 2.6.32-22.
