In VarLogDistupgradeMainlog.gz, near the end of the file I found:

gzip: stdout: No space left on device
update-initramfs: failed for /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic

Is this the problem, no space left on device?

Yes, I found out myself just a minute ago. I marked this as invalid, is there a way to remove it at all?

Changed in initramfs-tools (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
