switching back from virtual console to X causes a lot of beeps

Bug Description

To reproduce, on my system:

1 - Press Ctrl-Alt-F1
2 - Press Alt-F7 to return to X

Then, seven beeps or so sound in fast sequence.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04

$ uname -a
Linux DervishD 2.6.28-15-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 9 10:48:52 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

No, it doesn't happen in my brand new Lucid. It happened with the last Karmic update I made, probably a month ago or so.
