Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.31-14-generic

I have a Compaq V5120 laptop.
Suspend/Hiberate was working properly under 9.04, but after having just upgraded to 9.10 they are both broken.

Laptop seems to suspend properly, but once it's brought out of suspend by pressing the power button,
the power comes on, the cd drive whirs, the wireless light comes on, and then nothing: the display never powers up, the harddrive never has any more activity, and no keys do anything (eg, ctrl-alt-delete). This is the same behavior the laptop exhibited under 8.04 and 8.10, but it was fixed under 9.04.

Hibernate behaves similarly: it gets as far as "waking up", but once the memory is loaded from swap, it immediately freezes into the exact same no-display, non-responsive state as suspend.

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous suspend and prevented it from resuming properly.

Just like to add that on further testing, this bug has reproduced every single time I come out of suspend / hibernate.
I've tried disabling usplash, as well as editing DSDT.aml to fix some (apparent) acpi bugs, but to no avail. No combination has worked.

After further experimenting, I've determined my problem is being caused by xserver-xorg-video-radeon. If I set my video driver to "vesa", suspend & hibernate both work flawlessly. This system has never had fglrx installed, so it's not a conflict with the commercial driver. If the debug information above doesn't include it, I have a "ATI Technologies Inc Radeon XPRESS 200M 5955 (PCIE)"
