Bug Description

Binary package hint: plee-the-bear

Hi,

The current version of the game "Plee the Bear" is 0.4.1 upstream and in Debian but the version in Ubuntu is 0.2.1. Since a lot of changes has been done between those releases, I suggest to take the newest release from debian testing (main).

By the way, the library "libclaw" has to be upgraded too, to version 1.5.4, in order to upgrade plee-the-bear. It is also in debian testing main. There is no reverse dependencies other than the modules of the library and plee-the-bear.

$apt-cache rdepends $(apt-cache search libclaw- | cut -d' ' -f1) | grep '^ ' | sort | uniq
  libclaw-application1
  libclaw-application-dev
  libclaw-configuration-file-dev
  libclaw-dynamic-library-dev
  libclaw-graphic-dev
  libclaw-logger-dev
  libclaw-net-dev
  plee-the-bear

Regards,

Julien

Hi Julien,

This close to the release date (less than 2 weeks), you need a very good reason to make this sync happen in Karmic.
Anyway, the Debian version will be automatically updated in the next development cycle.

If you think that this new version should really be in Karmic, you should follow the FFe process described at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess and reopen this bug by putting his status back to New.

I'll unsubscribe u-u-s for the moment, but feel free to subscribe the team again if FFe is confirmed.

Thanks,
Fabrice

The best reason I have is the following one: plee-the-bear 0.2.1 does build on Debian but does not run due to an update of boost packages, causing this bug report [1] which has been closed by introducing the newest release. I even think that it does not run in Intrepid but I can't test right now. 0.4.1 builds well on Debian and has been recently introduced in testing [2].

If it's not enough, the game had a lot of improvements between 0.2.1 and 0.4.1 [3] :)

Moreover, updating this package and libclaw together has no influence on anything else, so it won't break anything.

Regards,

Julien

Any testing (on a karmic system) would be highly appreciated.

Current package is uninstallable due to old boost depends:

Depends: libboost-filesystem1.34.1

I'm checking to see if it builds with 1.38

Current package FTBFS with Boost 1.38. If the new package builds, then we ought to go with it.

Also needs a newer libclaw from Debian, but libclaw-dev has no other reverse build depends, so I don't see that as a problem.

Builds with the newer boost and libclaw, so I'm going ahead to make the package installable.
