When using the Paint fire plugin, the fire drawn on the screen doesn't go away and CPU usage is highly increased. The system does not freeze, but it is necessary to reload the window manager to get rid of the problem.

Are you saying the fire stops updating and Shift-Super-c doesn't clear it off the screen? Otherwise try pushing that key combo and it'll clear the fire.

Shift-Super-c indeed clears the fire, but that isn't the default behavior until today. It should be fading away after I release the mouse button, since I didn't change any settings. Perhaps the problem is not in compiz, but in easystroke. I use the fire plugin option to track strokes captured by easystroke.

I'm not sure what easystroke is or what you're trying to do but Shift-Super-c has always been the way to clear the fire off the screen.

"Easystroke is a gesture-recognition application for X11. It aims to be highly configurable while at the same time providing an intuitive user interface. It was designed with a Tablet PC in mind, but it also works well with a mouse."

Sorry, I should have researched more before reporting this. Anyway, I guess the problem is indeed with easystroke. Should I report it?

Yeah, filing a new bug specifically mentioning the problems with easystroke would be a good idea.
