Dapper: nm-applet doesn't detect network interfaces

Bug Description

My laptop is an IBM Thinkpad T21 currently running the Dapper Beta. Hardware info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SeanHammond?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=taptaplshw.html

I realise it's not considered fully supported yet, but I installed nm-applet in Dapper as it was working (on this machine) in Breezy and it was really nice. In Dapper, nm-applet just says 'No Network Connection' and lists no wired or wireless networks, even when I am happily connected and using the networks fine via the old network-admin interface

your lshw shows you are using an rt2500 wirlesscard. NM 0.6 started using wpasuplicant as a backend, but this does not support rt2500.

its possible to revert back to NM 0.5 in dapper, there are details on Bug #37120
