Provide Ubuntu One integration

Ubuntu One is Canonical's cloud storage service, and it is being included by default in Ubuntu 9.10.

If Deja Dup can provide solid backup integration with Ubuntu One, I think it would become a much stronger app in the Ubuntu community. It could also increase the viability of the Ubuntu One service for Canonical.

This integration would probably involve a similar interface as what's used for Amazon S3, but it might be simpler to do than that was, since Ubuntu One is integrated more closely in Ubuntu.

So, let me know what you think of this.

I'd definitely like to have this. Note that you can kind of do it now, by backing up to your Ubuntu One sync directory, as long as you're willing to have a local copy too.

This should probably go into duplicity as a new backend, then add support for it to Deja Dup. I'll open a task against duplicity too.

I myself don't know how to write a native Ubuntu One backend. Would require some investigation.

After talking with the Ubuntu One folks, there doesn't seem to be a mechanism for storing large files that aren't also on your own system. That is, Ubuntu One only synchronizes files, it doesn't have a way to only store them remotely.

So we provide as much integration as we can today -- just pick the Ubuntu One folder in the location chooser.

Upon further consideration, I think we can do something slightly clever here. If an Ubuntu One folder (maybe not even the main one, but just one that is synced) is used, we could determine the size of the user's account and making sure we don't go over that limit.

We may also want to default to the Ubuntu One folder if we detect it. Not sure on that one.

Using the Ubuntu One sync folder, means that you have all your files twice on your hard disk.

I propose to implement duplicity remote backup support into the Ubuntu One server.
