Bug Description

Steps to reproduce:
 1. Start Ubuntu
 2. Log in to a gnome session.
 3. Plug in and power up an external eSATA drive.
 4. No automouting takes place.

Expected behavior:
External drive automounts much as a external usb drive or flash drive would.

Issues:
  * Chipsets may not differentiate between eSATA and regular sata ports.
  * Some chipsets may not like hotplugging.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install, that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of this project.

-This seems like a bug [eSATA is supposed to mount but is not] rather than a design flaw.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as "Invalid" only in the papercuts project.

affects: ubuntu → gvfs (Ubuntu)

Hi,
I also experience this. My external drive is recognized by Ubuntu 9.10 when used via USB. I use the eSATA interface and it is recognized in the BIOS, but not in Ubuntu.

I have the same problem. I did find that if I opened the Disk Utility under System->Administration then the drives that were plugged in would mount, but only the first time it was opened.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.

In Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) we have a new tool to debug storage related problems. Please run "ubuntu-bug", select "storage problem", and walk through the steps. This will create a new bug report, thus I close this one.
