Bug Description

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils

I just installed the beta of Karmic Koala server, and decided to try out the encrypted home directory feature. When ftp'ing some files across from my laptop to the new server, some files with long(-ish) filenames failed. I subsequently tar'd these files up and transferred them across, but when I came to untar them in my encrypted home directory, this again failed. To determine whether or not it was the encryption that was causing the problem I untar'd the files in /tmp (unencrypted fs) on the server, and this was successful.

The filenames that failed were:

08 - Messiah_Part_I-_Recitative__alto_-_Behold,_a_virgin_shall_conceive,_Air__alto_-_O_thou_that_tellest_good_tidings_to_Zion,_Chorus-_O_thou_that_tellest_good_tidings_to_Zion,_arise.ogg

(187 chars)

14 - Messiah_Part_I-_Recitative__soprano_I_-_Then_shall_the_eyes_of_the_blind_be_opened,_Air__alto___soprano_I_-_He_shall_feed_His_flock_like_a_shepherd.ogg

(157 chars)

Although these filenames are quite long, I would still expect these to be accepted, particularly if they are accepted under the unencrypted filesystem.

Could be related to bug #359531 ?

Yeah, sorry.

This is a cost of doing business with encrypted filenames. Note that
you can configure encrypted filenames off, while still encrypting
contents.

How would you do that?
