Firefox doesn't have icon

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

Today I've updated from Ubuntu 9.04 to Ubuntu 9.10 Beta, and Firefox (the packages "firefox", "firefox-3.5" and "firefox-3.5-branding" are installed, but not "firefox-3.0" and "firefox-3.0-branding") lost its icon everywhere:

1) In the Ubuntu menu (Internet > Firefox).

2) In the toolbar launcher.

3) In the launcher run by "Alt+F2" (no icon appears for "firefox" or "firefox-3.5").

All icons of the other softwares are ok.

Yes, and I have an up-to-date Karmic.

I can confirm this. Today I also updated from Jaunty to Karmic. I think I experience exactly the same problem as Jean-Philippe, with the exception that the’ entry of Firefox in the window list of the GNOME panel does have an icon.

Yes, I’m still staring at the question mark icon for Firefox in the menu every day.

You can edit Firefox's main menu icon using System -> Preferences -> Main Menu.

Just to be clear, do you only get this on Lucid when updating from Karmic, or on a fresh install?

Updating from Karmic.

In karmic, I changed manually the icon of my Firefox launcher, but after my update to Lucid, the icon disappeared again.

Thanks. It makes sense that the bug would be more common in upgrades, since stuff may get messed up in the transition from the firefox-3.5 package to the firefox package.

I also had this problem on a clean install of Lucid when upgrading from Firefox 3.5 to firefox 3.6+nobinonly-0ubuntu1.

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect 451888 and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
