Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox failed to open (cursor spins then nothing) after updating to 2.6.31-13. It attempted and failed to generate crash report first time. Nothing since. Unable to generate report through apport.
Steps taken:
1)further updates installed next night: 2.6.31-14. No further updates available.
2)uninstalled and reinstalled firefox with no add-ons through Synaptic package manager
3)checked internet connection by successfully running evolution
Note: installation affected is on multiboot HPm7330n. Similar installation on Gateway laptop works fine.
Package originally installed from Karmic live CD, updated through update manager

Thank you, Micah.

1. This morning Update Manager offered Firefox update (among others) so I began by installing all updates. Afterward Firefox partially opened, turned gray, then crashed. Apport took some time building a bug report, but when the progress bar showed completion and the ap closed, I don't think it went anywhere.

 2. Went to Mozilla to download Firefox for Linux, but couldn't figure out how to install. Firefox support page linked to Ubuntu site which suggested adding ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-daily/ppa to system's Software Sources. Then I installed 3.5.3 + build 1+ nobin only-Oubuntu4 and xulrunner-1.9.1-gnome support though Synaptic. This turned Firefox panel icon blue, and still did not work. Deleted these and the repository I had added.

3. Reinstalled Firefox and xulrunner from Synaptic. Still just a spinning cursor then nothing.

4. Additional side effect after restart: Help question mark is gone from panel and from system menu. Clicking Help in add-to-panel box yields error “Could not display help document 'user guide'. Failed to execute child process “gnome-help” (no such file or directory).

Other than continuing to install updates, am considering abandoning Karmic installation for now and reinstalling Karmic on that machine after release. Still have working Karmic on laptop and Jaunty on desktop and am probably too new (2 months) and not knowledgeable enough to be Beta tester.
