Hi smoosh,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 451456

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I believe this is still an issue. I gave up on Karmic because of it, and have been using Jaunty, which suspends fantastically. Is testing with a live CD acceptable? I don't really want to upgrade, just to have to reinstall Jaunty again, ya know!

smoosh,
That should be fine. At least it will give us some idea if it will work.

Thanks!

Same issue with the Lucid RC, the computer seems to suspend fine as the green power light turns to a flashing orange light. Everything normal there. But, when trying to resume, after the light turns solid green again, and the LED that indicates hard drive access flashes once, everything freezes. No backlight, caps lock does not work. No key combinations do anything... A hard shut-down is needed.

Update! Was reading this page: http://vaioubuntu.wordpress.com/2010/04/15/whats-about-latest-ubuntu-10-04-beta/#comments
and came across a comment that has the solution:

Add the following line to /etc/pm/config.d/unload_modules (you may have to create it)
SUSPEND_MODULES="video"

Which worked!

Note: I am NOT using Fglrx anymore, as the default driver in Lucid works great so far with Compiz. I could never get Compiz to work with the default driver in Jaunty, hence the Fglrx usage.

I have now installed Lucid, ditched Jaunty, and am happy as a clam!

I will install fglrx and report back if it works with that too...

Smoosh
Thanks!

Works with Fglrx as well...

Another note: Using the open-source driver, the cursor is invisible upon resume (if you disable the log-in screen), so you have to press Ctrl-Alt-F2, then Ctrl-Alt-F1. Just in case anybody asks....

I can't believe I finally upgraded! Yaaaaah!
