Bug Description

Binary package hint: virtaal

The new version (0.4.0-2) of Virtaal contains a lot of new features and bug fixes. From the release announcement:

Highlighted improvements
========================
 - Terminology help. Many people love the terminology feature of Pootle, but we think Virtaal is even better.
 - Syntax highlighting. See curly quotes, XML tags, etc. highlighted in the editing area.
 - Support for "placeables". Read more here: http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/virtaal/placeables
   Let's just say that Walter put in a lot of sweat for this one.
 - Support for editing inline elements of XLIFF files
 - Improvements to preferences
   - plugins
   - placeables
   - sources of translation memory and terminology
 - Updated translations. Many thanks for contributions to more than 15 languages so far.
 - Improvements for right-to-left languages. Thanks to Khaled Hosny.

There are also other smaller enhancements, such as seeing the source of a translation memory suggestion - probably the most requested feature since the previous release.

It was successfully built from the Debian sources (from http://packages.debian.org/unstable/main/virtaal) with Karmic pbuilder and installed/tested on a Karmic VM. It depends, however, on the inclusion of version 1.4.0-1 of the Translate Toolkit (see bug 451269 for the relevant FFE request).

Bug 388262 is a request to sync the Debian version and can be closed if this FFE is granted.

ChangeLog since 0.3.1-3:

virtaal (0.4.0~rc1-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
    + debian/patches/glade_warnings: Removed (not needed anymore).
  * debian/control: Standards-Version bumped to 3.8.2. No changes.
  * debian/rules: Removed dh_desktop, this is now handled with a trigger.
  * debian/rules: Do not check the dependencies at build time. This avoid
    depending on too many python libraries at build time (--nodepcheck added)
  * debian/rules: Remove the generated (binary) MO files in the clean rule to
    allow building twice in a row
  * debian/patches/debian_remove_tests: Do not distribute the test directory.
  * debian/patches/fail_for_missing_dependencies: Fail when the dependencies
    are checked (and some dependencies are missing) during build time, instead
    of just issuing a warning.
  * debian/control: Added dependency: python-simplejson.

Manual testing have been done on a Karmic VM. Also, seeing as most of the core functionality is provided by the Translate Toolkit, I would mention that its unit tests were also successfully run on the same VM.

Unfortunately we've passed the final freeze deadline for this. It will be automatically sync'ed for Lucid. You can then request a backport to Karmic if you want.

Thank you. I'll make sure to keep track of the sync. :)
