ctrl+t doesn't work in languages other than english

Bug Description

If the keyboard layout is switched to a language other than english ( I tried greek and Azerbaijan) ctrl+t doesn't work. ctrl+alt+shift though works in gnome-terminal and alt+f4 works fine in firefox as well).

I think there is already a related bug report in Launchpad.

In a nutshell, there is specific functionality in GTK+ that solves this problem. GNOME applications work, OpenOffice (recent versions) work, while Firefox/Thunderbird where never working.
It's an issue of a developer working on this to get GTK+ support fixed in Firefox/Thunderbird.
