Bug Description

hibernation occured. resume failed. Sysrq-'b' boot worked for this hang.

(How can I turn on console or debug info while resuming? I am very new to Ubuntu...)

FYI: On Jaunty, this same machine successfully hibernated/resumed. (That was with nonfree fglrx).

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous hibernate and prevented it from resuming properly.

Hi all,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.

Please, can you tell us whether this is still an issue for you? If not, please, consider update this bug as 'Fix Released', else, can you please, fill a little form, with questions contained in this wiki? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume

It will definitely help developers to find the fix or help you to detect that you don't really have real bug. Please, pay special attention to the "Encrypted Home-Swap" issue and the flashing caps-lock.

Information below, will also help you

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UnderstandingSuspend

I'd also encourage you to try this tests https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/SuspendResumeTesting to gather more information to developers

Thank you in advance.

Hi, I have just tested Lucid Beta2 (for amd64) on my same note PC. Here is current status.

--------------------------------
(1) 'Hibernate' entry disappeared from menu.

I don't know this is intended workaround or not.

(2) Calling 'sudo pm-hibernate' doesn't correctly sleep.

When I call that, system immediately waked up.
--------------------------------

If these changes are intended workaround, I will change status of this issue to 'Fix Released'.
Can anyone tell me?

Note: On this machine, 'suspend' is not enough usable.
After wakeup from 'suspend', this machine has following problems:

(3) Internal (wired) LAN became unusable. (NetworkManager reports eth0 is up, but ping to external ip is unreachable)

(4) LCD Brightness down. (Though gnome brightness applet worked.)

Hi hkoba,

Can you confirm that your system has enough swap file to hibernate. You'll need at least your RAM amount in hard disk as swap.

Thanks.

Hi Pepe,

Thank you for your advice about swap. I examined swap and noticed it was encrypted.
After changes of fstab/crypttab, Now "Hibernate" menu entry appears!

Unfortunately, resume still failed (Hibernate itself occured).
I will attach dmesg.

Next, I will try debugging instructions and report it.
It may take a few days. Please wait.

Few seconds after running pm-suspend, these messages appeared.
This shot is just before power down.

Now I suspect (not only resume, but also) hibernate has problem.

To make my report accurate, today I have re-installed lucid amd64 and applyed all updates.
Now kernel is 2.6.32-22-generic.

And, hibernation still fails. Attached file is created via:

echo devices > /sys/power/pm_test
echo platform > /sys/power/disk
echo disk > /sys/power/state
dmesg > /tmp/dmesg-devices-platform.txt

And this is lsmod output, just before hibernate test.
