Bug Description

Though I saw a bug was already reported, the report said a fixed was released on September 22. I am having a much more acute case of slow upload speed, it would seem.

I am in Kingston, Ontario. I have a very reliable ISP (Cogeco) with a generous upload/download speed (I can't test right now because I'm using the 64 bit Flash for Linux, which has some issues with not being able to click some types of buttons...). My internet is running perfectly fine (as measures by speedtest.net previously we run around 10mb/s down and 1mb/s up). I'm not in a high-use area, but a relatively low population density area with brand new infrastructure.

Over the last 6 hours Ubuntu One has only uploaded a handfull of megabytes. I have 2241 files to be uploaded (for a total of just 268.6 MB) but only 231 have been uploaded. I have no significantly large files.

In short, I have no idea why it's not uploading quickly. I just updated a few minutes back and it pulled the updates back almost immediately from the Ubuntu servers.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 beta (completely updated) 64 bit edition. Any help appreciated.

What I'm trying to do is migrate from Dropbox to Ubuntu One (since the only thing I use it for is web-access)

Hi Chris,

I'm sorry your experiencing poor performance with Ubuntu One. We've been having some server issues the past couple of days that I think are probably causing the slow performance. Can you report back performance during this week? In the mean time, I'll assign this bug to a developer so that we can track it in case it's not related to the server issues.

Thank you,

Joshua

I had very similar experience in terms of timescale and number of files, with very latest U9.10 fresh install fully-updated at around 7pm UK time 11/11/2009.

I have exactly the same problem. Ubuntu 9.10 with fresh install using latest version of all packages. I'm uploading 7517 files, and it's taken a matter of around 3-4 hours simply to upload 1951 of these files. The total upload size is 67.3 MB's, and there are no overtly large files at all. Seems to me that by looking at the network manager, it spends maybe a few seconds uploading one file and then has extremely long and large pauses between each one. Perhaps a database performance degradation issue?

By the way, I'm running Ubuntu One 1.1+r278-0. Can give more information as necessary. At the moment, I'd say this bug makes the program almost unusable at present.

This is not an issue of pure bandwidth, but that we're taking too long to process each file (so, a lot of files means a lot of time, no matter the size of the files).

This bug affects me too. Although my upload is quite low (~500kpbs) I wasn't able to upload more than 80 (eighty!) MB for 12 (twelve!) hours. The upload rate was literally about a few kbps and was reaching 0 all the time.

I'd like to transfer my backup from dropbox to ubuntu one but currently it is not possible. :(
