On KDE you have to start in manually the first time. It's in Applications -> Utilities. Do you have that?

Sorry, I think there might have been some confusion, there's no icon in
the menu. It's under accessories in XFCE.

Well, the insanity continues.
akonadi.png, the icon used by akonaditray (amongst others I suppose) is part of oxygen, however is oxygen not one of the xdg fallback icon sets (in fact only hicolor is), so akonadi.png cannot be found unless KDE and/or oxygen is used.

Solution: move the akonadi icon from oxygen-icons to (e.g.) kdepim-runtime and install it to hicolor rather than oxygen.

Note: this should be applied upstream.

Hi there!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. While we appreciate your issue, it would be better if it was tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that the KDE developers can deal with this speedily and have direct communication with you as the reporter for more effective debugging.

Thanks!
