Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase

Dolphin has a context menu for the Trash icon that includes "Remove Trash". I'm having trouble with people clicking on this when trying to empty their trashcan: They think (perhaps rightly) that "remove trash" means "empty the trash". So their trash icons get deleted from Dolphin, leaving them with no readily accessible way to clear or access their trashed files, and no way to add the Trash icon back to Dolphin.

Also, consider flagging this as a security issue, since people tend to rely on the trashcan as a way of removing sensitive information from their systems. Dolphin and other programs will continue using Del to send files to the trashcan, even when the user has no apparent way to empty it.

Nevermind the much more fitting icon that is joined by a text saying "empty trash" at the very top of the dialog?

Also, just so that I can say I contributed to education today ... security wise it does not make much difference whether a file is in the trash bin or deleted.

I don't know if this is actually a bug. The context menu is quite clear: the first entry is 'Empty Trash' and the last one is 'Remove trash'.
To add the trash icon in the places panel of Dolphin, right clic -> Add entry -> Description: Trash; Location: trash:/

Furthermore it's very easy to add the trash widget (plasmoid) to the desktop or to the panel.

If you really think this a KDE UI bug you should report this upstream: http://bugs.kde.org

Pronouncing something "quite clear" doesn't make it so, esp. without any discussion of the semantic issue. But if you insist, we can all say the words look and sound different and so offer a "clear" choice.

''If you really think this a KDE UI bug you should report this upstream: http://bugs.kde.org''

I use an OS called Kubuntu, not a bundle of source code for a disembodied component sitting on a developer-oriented site. Besides, if I need the exercise I'll use my legs to take a hike upstream for real instead of using my fingers to do pointless extra legwork for a broken development model. ;-)
