Bug Description

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Since today I have a weird hum when I press backspace in for example terminal.
I already have turned of the system alerts in Sound preferences but this doesn't see to fix my issue.

Reproducible:
- Open for eg. a terminal
- Press backspace
- A weird hum will be heard.

I already tried:
- System -> Preferences -> Sound
- Alert volume: Mute
But the issue still exists.

Yup, just got this one too. Try running gconf-editor and setting
/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/bell_mode
to 'off'.

If this fixes the problem, is it possible to change this bug to:

Package: gnome-volume-control
Bug: Disabling sounds doesn't disable keyboard bell

summary: - Weird hum as "system beep".
+ Disabling sounds doesn't disable keyboard bell
affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) → gnome-volume-manager (Ubuntu)

I have this bug too in Karmic beta, I also muted alert volume in sound preferences.

I can confirm this bug.
Muting the alert volume does not disable keyboard bell.

The fix suggested by fubarbundy worked for me.

I don't experience these sounds. Can you test Lucid or Maverick? Thanks!
