Bug Description

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

From system->preferences->network proxy, if using automatic proxy configuration, epiphany doesn't show any content.
When using manual proxy configuration everything works fine !

When running from the command line i got the following message :
PAC found, but no active PAC runner!

I'm using the default amd64 karmic packages.
(Automatic proxy configuration works fine for other apps such as firefox)

Apparently this happens because libproxy needs a javascript execution environment such as mozjs or webkit.

I can confirm this bug. Gnome proxy settings are set to automatic proxy configuration (a pac file location).

Starting epiphany from the CLI results in a message:
*** PAC found, but no active PAC runner! Falling back to direct...

and obviously no page is loading as my network does not allow direct connections. Automatic proxy configuration in firefox works fine.

Ubuntu Version: Karmic Koala
epiphany --version
GNOME Web Browser 2.28.0

Using webkit engine (epiphany-webkit). I've also tried installing mozjs or various additional webkit packages, but this did not help.

I had the same problem with epiphany-browser/luci (2.29.92-1)

Problem solved by upgrading libproxy0 to the lucid one (0.2.3-0ubuntu6)

So that

epiphany-browser:
  Installed: 2.29.92-1
  Candidate: 2.29.92-1
  Version table:
 *** 2.29.92-1 0
        500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com lucid/universe Packages
  ...
libproxy0:
  Installed: 0.2.3-0ubuntu6
  Candidate: 0.2.3-0ubuntu6
  Version table:
 *** 0.2.3-0ubuntu6 0
        500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com lucid/main Packages

works perfectly(?)

@julien, please could you check if this issue is still affecting you under latest release 2.30.2-1ubuntu1 (also ships with libproxy0 0.3.1.x) included in Ubuntu Lucid?

The similar problem with 2.30.2 in debian.

I can't use proxy authentication. The browser can load the initial "warning" html page from proxy (obtained from proxy.pac) with a button for authentication. In Firefox/IE, after pressing the button the auth dialog appears. But the Epiphany sends none http request after pressing that button. Instead of auth dialog the standard message is displayed:

[
   Unable to load page
          Problem occurred while loading the URL http://proxy-login.domain.com/
          Cannot connect to destination
]

Auth proxy form is:

<form method='POST' ACTION='http://proxy-login.domain.com/'>
  <input type='hidden' name='meth' value='GET'/>
  <input type='hidden' name='url' value='http%3A//www.this_is_it.com/'/>
  <input id='proxy_login_button' type='submit' value=' Log in... '/>
  <script>document.getElementById('proxy_login_button').focus();</script>
</form>

There was no activity because we (the users) reported the bug and you
(the developers) didn't do anything about it. Instead you let the bug
lapse for 60 days and then close it.

Is that how Ubuntu is closing bugs now? Ignoring them until they lapse?

As far as I can tell, the same or a similar problem is still present in ubuntu 13.10.
