Bug Description

Binary package hint: notify-osd

1) Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch)
Release: 9.10

2)notify-osd:
  Installeret: 0.9.22-0ubuntu1
  Kandidat: 0.9.22-0ubuntu1
  Versionstabel:
 *** 0.9.22-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://mirror.uni-c.dk karmic/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
3) I expected the bubble to be rendered correcty regardless of whether I choose to activate compiz or not.
4) The notification bubble is broken in Karmic in normal (non-compiz) mode. There was no problem in Jaunty. When I turn on the visual 3D-effects everything the notification bubble works just fine. The problem is persistent and affects all application's notifications. Have a look at the attached screenshots.

That's rather a bug in the OpenSource ati/radeon driver (xserver-xorg-video-ati) and not in notify-osd. As verification I tried non-composited metacity on an intel GMA X3100 (aka i965) using xserver-xorg-video-intel and on a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT using nvidia-glx. In both cases the non-composited rendering code-path in notify-osd worked correctly without any artefacts.

affects: notify-osd (Ubuntu) → xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)

I have a Dell C640 with an ATI Radeon 7500 and it has this same issue, I have to turn off all effects otherwise the system freezes. When I turn off the effects the bubble notifications are corrupted and don't display properly.

This very same issue also effects the System Montior application.

Everything worked fine in all previous releases, any info to fix would be appreciated.
