Bug Description
Binary package hint: gvfs
I've experienced this bug on both my desktop and eeepc 900, with different cardreader models.
New gnome incorrectly treats cardreaders similar to usb sticks. After unmounting sd card, whole device gets powered down and becomes permanently non-functional, until reboot.
