Startup Manager (Bootloader themes) won't check box

In the "Appearance" tab, second option "Bootloader themes" will not allow the box to be checked on Karmic 9.10 Beta. Tried as root in teminal and will not generate the bootloader themes to be checked.

Issue resolved by "user" error of not adding the .xpm.gz file to the /boot/grub/splashimages/ and then checking the box after selecting the image from the drop down.

Startup manager seems entirely broken for me, it installs yet all I wanted to do was change Karmic's ugly boot screen to something more my liking. Not only does it not change boot screen it seems to cause a few problems on shut down, I recommend not using it until it is fixed.
