Yes, the Janitor basically does not find/remove any residual config files after packages are removed. I still use synaptic to remove these file as Computer-Janitor reports "Nothing was found to clean up". This would be a good function to add in keeping with the purpose of the tool.

I am on Ubuntu Desktop 64bit 2.6.28-15-generic. I have found that after my initial install and first upgrade from repositories that Janitor had included old kernel headers.

@yurik81, which version of computer-janitor do you use on which version of Ubuntu?

Another good idea would be to add options to clean apt cache and removing packages marked for automatic installation, that no longer in use.

I've just verified that computer-janitor, in karmic, does indeed suggest linux-headers-* and linux-image-* for removal.

I also verified that it still suggests packages that "apt-get autoremove" (packages marked as automatically installed, but nothing depending on them anymore).

For cleaning the apt cache, please file a wishlist bug.

With Ubuntu 9.10 installed afresh in double-boot (vista) and then updated, the computer has kernels 2.6.31-14 & 2.6.31-20.

9.10 installs grub-pc, which generates a menu with both kernels (& vista).

Computer-janitor 1.13.3 (which btw reports 1.11 in Help/About) offers to remove linux-headers-2.6.31-14 & linux-headers-2.6.31-14-generic, but not linux-image-*.

Consequently, when the selected tasks are executed, Computer-janitor finds no further packages to remove, but update-grub still finds 2.6.31-14 and generates a menu for both kernels:

Generating grub.cfg ...
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-20-generic
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-20-generic
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-14-generic
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-2.6.31-14-generic
Found memtest86+ image: /boot/memtest86+.bin
Found Windows Vista (loader) on /dev/sda1
done

It is possible to boot on either of the kernels.

I expected 2.6.31-14 to be removed completely from the computer, and grub updated by Computer-janitor to reflect this.
