Binary package hint: xorg
I have intel 810 onboard VGA.
System > Preferences > Display. There are only two options available in Resolution pull down menu, they are- 800x600 (4:3) and 640x480 (4:3). Other options to higher resolutions are not there.

same here , with i945 express (AOPEN) ; was fine with 9.04
