Bug Description

Binary package hint: kpackagekit

1. Start KPackageKit.
2. Go to the "Software Updates" tab.
3. Click "Select All Updates" button.
4. Click "Apply" button.
5. System checks, then asks to install dependencies.
6. Click OK.
7. Pop-up: "Failed to update package lists - KPackageKit" with contents "You do not have the necessary privileges to perform this action."
8. Click OK.
9. First time displays crash and asks to report. When you tell it to report it says it was unable because the error occurred before apport could gather information. This does not happen on subsequent attempts.

Result: System cannot be upgraded!

This has been fixed already, but you must update to fix it. :P
Just do a sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade from konsole.

I did the updates manually, but I still get "You do not have the necessary privileges to perform this action" when KDE attempts automatic recommended updates. There is no crash or error report.

1. Click icon in lower right corner that suggests packages to install to make KDE "better for multimedia"
2. Tell it to install packages. This part works.
3. Next, it says dependencies have been generated by the previous installation, and offers to install them.
4. Clicking "Select All Packages" followed by "Apply" generates the "You do not have the necessary privileges to perform this action" message and the updates do not install.

Apologies if this is still a duplicate, but I read over Bug # 436748 and did not see anything about this.

I can confirm this bug still exists -- and I do not see how the "credentials" message is a part of #436748. I believe these are two different bugs.
