Bug Description

I just installed the Ubuntu 9.10 Beta.
The live CD worked perfectly.
But, after installation, the splash screen and the login screen do not appear.
I have to log in at the terminal and, when I type "startx", some error messages are shown:
----
(EE) Failed to load module nvidia (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) No drivers available

Fatal server error:
no screens found
----

My Desktop specifications are:
Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB DDR2
500GB HD SATA
Nvidia Gforce 9400 GT.

Hi melyps,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

Bryce, thanks for the help, but the problem is already solved.
I just re-installed my beta 9.10 version and it worked (after a disk test, which recovered 1 file).
I think the problem occurred because, while using Karmic beta LiveCD, I tried to install the Nvidia drivers and, without rebooting, I installed the Ubuntu.
Now it's running perfectly. I'm going to install the "Nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version 185)" to test.
Thanks again.

Well, the test failed...
I activated the "Nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version 185)" and, after log off, the login screen no longer appeared.
I'm an advanced user, so I'll try to get the logs and outputs to attach here.

First, a correction on the comment above. I'm NOT an advance user.

I just removed the "nvidia driver" on the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and saved.
Then, I installed Envy and selected the Nvidia driver version 173 (since the version 185 is not working with my PC)

Now it's perfectly running with all the visual effects.
