Had tried to update my nVidia driver about a week ago (if that had anything to do with it - I had some crashes then and wasn't able to carry out the update) but don't know why this is happening now.

Hi JFMurphy,

Examining your DpkgTerminalLog.txt I see the following:

expr: non-numeric argument
User postinst hook script [/sbin/update-grub] exited with value 2

This seems to indicate this is really an issue in grub and actually a duplicate of bug 193439. Marking it as such. Please continue to track this issue at that report. Thanks.
