Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Setting display brightness with the Fn keys makes the OSD brightness control appear and the value changes on the control, but the actual brightness remains unchanged. The brightness applet doesn't appear to work as well.

Also when closing the laptop lid, my selected option in gnome-power-preferences (Blank display) is ignored; the display doesn't change.

This happens with Karmic Beta and newest gnome-power-manager.

Oh, and I also forgot to say that on Ubuntu 9.04 setting brightness worked flawlessly.

I'm really sorry, it seems updating everything in the whole system has solved this problem.

The reason why I didn't do that in the first place was that at first when I wanted to update the system I was shown a dialog that packages could not be upgraded and I was asked to do a partial update, after which I was utterly confused and thought there was a bug in the update software. Turns out that updating via Synaptic was totally fine.
