Bug Description

During suspend-to-ram, system will power off harddisks and all fans (except the ones for power supply) but screens are still alive: a blinking cursor may be seen on the main monitor.
There is no chance to resume the system except reset or hard-off causing it to restart properly.

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous suspend and prevented it from resuming properly.

Hi Thomas,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 446442

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same issue with the same motherboard and two graphics cards.
Neither suspend-to-disk or suspend-to-RAM work - just result in power supply fans staying on and a black screen with non-blinking cursor in the corner, as if the system had hung [it probably had].
If I hard-off or reset the system after it has completed the write cycle for suspend-to-disk, it still fails to resume normally.

I have tried updating the BIOS but this had no effect.

Also got same message in Dmesg:
"ACPI: I/O resource nForce2_smbus [0x1c00-0x1c3f] conflicts with ACPI region SM00 [0x1c00-0x1c05]"

Installed GRUB 2 and used "acpi_enforce_resources=lax" thinking that it would solve the problem, but it did not.

I think this is a problem with the SMbus and ACPI. The system seems to take all necessary steps to suspend but fails to switch off or power down the PSU.
When I tell it to hibernate the HDD indicator LED will light up as it writes the RAM to disk, but it fails to switch off the power afterwards.

Has anyone tried this in Lucid?? I would but I haven't the time.
It worked without a hitch in Jaunty.
