Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

Here is how I can reproduce this in the karmic beta (totem 2.28.1-0ubuntu1):

Watch a video in fullscreen until it ends. Totem will stay in fullscreen. If you don't exit the fullscreen-mode but wait until the screensaver activates, totem will crash and you won't be able to exit it (or do anything else). I have to kill totem from a TTY.

I'm not sure if this is a bug with totem or gnome-screensaver. If you can't reproduce this, let me know what I have to do to help.

I'm experiecing the same problem. I installed the package "totem-dbg" but GDB still claims not to find the debugging symbols:

Do I need some debugging packages from the ddebs repo?

Thx, Photon

Okay. I figured out, it has nothing to do with the screensaver activating, but only with the kind of videos you play. Totem reproducably hangs at the end of 50% of my AVIs. I'll try to make a sample video file for others to test it. Probably the header data in those files is wrong, but that shouldn't crash Totem.

I'd got this problem too after migrating to Karmic. And it doesn't depends on file codec or container. Disabling any screensaver solved the problem completely. I left only monitor turn off when idle.

Here it doesn't appear, too, maybe it should be marked as fixed or invalid?

the exact source of the problem could not be identified. the problem is fixed so this bug should be invalid.
