Brightness hotkey doesn't work on Acer 5810T

Perhaps similar to bug #401591. I'm actually able to get the hotkey working, but need to do the following:

1. Add nomodeset to my boot options (this in itself does not solve the problem);

2. Run "xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native" from the command line.

Running 64-bit kestrel 2.6.31-11-generic; more exactly:
