nscd terminates with assertion in prune_cache

nscd terminates after a few seconds with this error message:

# nscd -d

apport-bug refuses to report this bug, so here is the .crash file manually unpacked (minus the core file as it might contain details from my local passwd and shadow files).

Removing the existing files in /var/cache/nscd solved the problem

Those files where left there from the jaunty version of nscd. It seems that the file layout changed and caused the problem.

A upgrade from jaunty to karmic should remove the old files.

The attached nscd.preinst should take care of pruning the old cache on upgrades

This happened to me today on a Lucid VM which had not been upgraded from a prior release ever.
