Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

Trying to set up dual screen configuration (Acer Aspire One 110's screen and Sony SDM-HS95P), I opened gnome-display-properties and set both screens to their native resolutions (1024x600 and 1280x1024 respectively), clicked Apply. I was told that I need to enable virtual resolution, I clicked Yes, authenticated for making a system-wide change, told that I need to log out and log back in. However, nothing changed on the next logon. I still get 800x600 on each screen and same prompt when trying to set the resolution as I wanted.

Same for me. I believe the problem lies in the wrong calculation of the virtual desktop-size.

I got two 1280x1024-Monitors, and in xorg.conf the follwoing parameter is set:
"Virtual 2048 2048"

It should be:
"Virtual 2560 2048"

If i change it manually, it works immediately.

@Koterpillar: Your x-size seems to be to small. Try to set it at least to "Virtual 2304 1624" (or greater) and try it again.

Changed in gnome-control-center (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

My Preferences -> Display interface offers maximum 1280X1024 and does not recognize neither my very common Dell 2405 (1920X1200) LCD monitor nor my ASUS with the same resolution. Am not trying to run them as a virtual desktop.
My on board (an ASUS M2NPV-VM m/b) GPU is Nvidia Geforce 6150 (a rather common/recent model).
Moreover, invoking the System->Administrator->"Hardware Drivers"->"searching for available drivers" and installing any of the available drivers does always result in a defunct and unworkable graphical interface.

I can hardly believe that it is possible for the few people who are developing Sabayon (a Gentoo based distro) to make my monitors automatically recognized and work as they are supposed to do (Gentoo works also) but that it is not possible for the far more numerous developers of both Debian/Ubuntu and OpenSuse based distros (and others too) -- especially as you all are supposedly working within the Open Software Systems community where sharing and borrowing should be possible.

This problem really makes me scratch my head. %-?

However, I am *still* (after a very long time) hoping that the problem will be solved, eventually! ;-)

Yours almost perfectly pleased,

Peter
