Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If I have Firefox open and I then launch rythmbox, I have no audio and no indication audio is playing (track progress bar does not move). This happens with both locally stored MP3s as well as online streams. When I try to select an online stream, rythmbox shows "buffering" and even displays the title/artist info but then seems to stop. If I close down the browser and then launch rythmbox, it works great. When I later launch firefox, everything keeps working unless I pause or stop playback. In that case, I cannot restart and must shut down the browser again. I don't think I can put all the blame on rythmbox however, as I have seen similar symptoms with amarok. I have reinstalled both apps, no change. I seem to have no trouble streaming directly from sites that support it through the browser. I am running 8.04 on an older Intel machine, rythmbox 0.11.5.

the issue could be due to flash, does it happen after going on a website using it?

I shut down all of the tabs which may have had flash running, restarted, etc. Exact same behavior. Last attempt, 4 tabs open in Firefox with static pages. When I started rythmbox I did not have any signs of life after the buffering progress bar completed - no audio and no title info this time.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond - what is totem-gstreamer? Not familiar with it - I will do some research.

Tried Totem after I shut the browser down and saw the same behavior as with Rythmbox - playback worked properly.
