Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

It seems that a commit from March, 8th setted the default pulseaudio media role for Empathy to be that of "phone".

This seems reasonable during voip calls so it stops any media player actually playing, but it turns out that even notifications about just received chat messages are being tagged the same way, and so continuously "breaking" the media player output.

This is the reference for the culprit:

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/svn-commits-list/2009-March/msg02455.html

When no in a voip call, it should be set to "event" rather than "phone".

Yeah Rhythmbox automatically pauses for Skype incoming messages (and any other events that create notification sounds)

This is very annoying and I couldn't find any setting to disable it. I looked around in skype, sound settings and Rhythmbox but there is no such setting. It makes impossible to listen to music while chatting.

note that the pulseaudio option to suspend playing on call will not be used by default in karmic
