Bug Description

From my last apt-get upgrade run:

Preparing to replace firefox 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.3-0ubuntu1 (using .../firefox_1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.3-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb) ...
cp: cannot overwrite non-directory `/usr/lib/firefox/././res' with directory `/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/./res'
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.3-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb (--unpack):
subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

This happend on amd64 running dapper.

I could work around it by removing the res symlink in /usr/lib/firefox. It got recreated successfully by the upgrade.

Setting status to confirmed. It looks like /usr/lib/firefox/chrome, /usr/lib/firefox/icons and /usr/lib/firefox/././searchplugins are also concerned.

Just a quick pool with subscribers, do you have previously installed firefox 1.5 with sources (off-package)? Because it's my case and maybe the issue come from that installation...

I was able to get passed this failure by uninstalling firefox - updating my system (new kernel) and then re-installing the firefox package. Not sure if others have done this as well???

FYI - 2.6.15-23-386

I've done it as well, but a problem caused this. The problem might still be
there and it might some day play a nasty trick.

Agreed, this still needs to be fixed, but I just wanted to comment on a work-around for folks.
