Here, it works fine with a Broadcom internal dongle (X61t notebook) and two Nokia phones (6230i and E90).

please start bluetoothd from command line like:

sudo killall bluetoothd; sudo bluetoothd --nodaemon --debug 2>&1 | tee /tmp/bt.log.txt

reproduce your issue (e.g. mark it as discoverable), try to search for your computer and paste the log you get.

Also attach your complete dmesg output and your complete syslog after reproducing. Thanks!

After some investigation, I found that my computer is discoverable, but I can't send photos from my phone to it. If i try to send photos from my phone (Nokia 6234) it looks for available devices and my computer does not show up. If I use a newer phone (Nokia N70?) my computer does show up, but the file transfer fails as soon as I select my computer as the device to send to.

I use to be able to send files from my phone to my computer quite easily.

No gnome-bluetooth doesn't provide file reception functionnality, you have to install gnome-user-share.
