Bug Description

There is no sound on my macbook pro 5.3 (either internal speakers nor headphone jack).

I'm using karmic 64bit.

I have checked sound levels in alsa and in the gnome sound configuration and they are to the maximum.

I'll gladly help with any information/test required if I can be of any assistance.

I had a similar problem with MacBookPro 5.5 when upgraded to karmic, but I managed to avoid this bug by manually installing a couple of programs. You might want to try with the instructions on the wiki page:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro5-5/Karmic

Same problem on 5,3. The wiki page wasn't able to fix the issues. (And a permanent solution should come about.)

Has anyone checked to see if the problem still exists with kernel 2.6.31-14-generic?

It does, but using the on-wiki directions seem to work for that version
of the kernel.

I have the same problem with 9.10 on MBP 5.3. Surprised it has not been addressed yet since last October...
The wiki fix for 5.5 does not work.. Annoying...

I think a solution was backported a while ago. Did it work?

Hi Vince,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
