Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

I have an Epson Stylus Photo R300 inkjet printer that worked find under Jaunty and early alphas of Karmic. Around alpha 4 or 5 printing stopped work, and is no longer recognized as a local printer. This is still the case under Karmic beta. The printer includes a USB hub and memory card reader. It seems to be recognized as a mass storage device okay.

This is a regression from an earlier karmic alpha.

dmesg and lsusb -v output to come...

Please do a full system update. We have uploaded another update of the CUPS package with further fixes on the USB printing support. See also bug #420015.

My system was already updated when reported the bug, and while I've done an "apt-get update ; apt-get dist-upgrade" since, I haven't seen anything cups/udev/etc. related come in.

I'd previously tried most of what was present in #420015 to no effect, but I've re-visited the thread there, verified that the suggestions there don't solve my problem, and I've posted the requested output in that thread.

I'm wondering whether is hinted at in the dmesg output below, wherein I turn the printer off, and then on:

No hint here that it's a printer. And yet, it worked before.

If you still think this bug is a dupe, I'll carry on in #420015.
