Bug Description
When ever I try to open a new file or import image if it the previously opened/imported does not exist it shows and error message. By checking the error message, I found the auto path is leading not to a directory but to the file previously selected.
For the same reason, in the case if the image exist, it points to no where, showing the selected directory as blank

Not reproduces on Ubuntu 10.10, Inkscape trunk revision 10191 and 0.48 (the autopath fallback is the user's home directory).
Could you please confirm you're still affected with recent Inkscape versions?
Thanks!
