Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg-driver-synaptics

I (even though it's not really me) tried to install latest dapper CD (alpha7) but the touchpad is not working. My laptop is a Toshiba A30-881 and touchpad is an Alps. I also tried dapper livecd, but it is not working (I'm stuck when X starts with a the brown background and the X cursor). As I need something working, I installed another distribution: mandriva One beta (beta 1.0.3) and touchpad is working great.

kernel: 2.6.12-17mdk-i586-up-1GB
Xorg is still a 6.9.0 (I have the log file for the mandriva).

I'll be away for 2 weeks, but when I return, I'll be able to give more info if needed (testing livecd for example).

Same issue with Toshiba A30-141
Tested on Dapper and Edgy beta 2 both don't detect the Alps touchpad. It looks like it is kernel bug becouse /proc/bus/input/device doesn't show the touchpad.
I compiled vanilla kernel and touchpad works, it works on other debian kernel too.
On request I will attach lspci and /proc/bus/input/devices from debian kernel.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

I don't have access to this laptop anymore, so I don't know if this is still an issue or not...

I'm closing this bug then, I remember having some troubles with the touchpad back then, and I've to configure it manually in xorg.conf, but now works automagically. If by any chance you experience this problem again, feel free to re-open this bug.
