Well, I talked to fast. Seems that in #346681 there is no mention of diffusion curves, so maybe that part of the bug should stay.

It's quite an amazing feature to have, Adobe is already working on it.

AFAIU the SVG working group decided to accept mesh gradients as advanced gradients for SVG 2.0:
